Forestry First Aid (2 hrs)

 

 



You’ll practice how to stop catastrophic bleeding by applying trauma dressings, haemostatic dressings and tourniquets. We have CAT tourniquets, SOFTT tourniquets and Fullstop tourniquets, so you can practice with the tourniquet that you have in your first aid kit.

 

This course is aimed at those who work in arboriculture, vegetation management, construction, etc.

This course supplements the life-saving skills of the Emergency First Aid at Work course with two extra days of training. You’ll learn to manage head and spinal injuries, broken bones, dislocations, burns and much more. We’ll also cover diabetes, stroke, anaphylaxis, asthma, angina and heart attack. So, if your workforce includes people with these medical conditions or you work in a hazardous environment, such as forestry, then consider this course.

First Aid at Work – Annual Refresher (3 hrs)

 

 

Attending a refresher course will enable the candidate to practice the skills learned previously. This will improve the skill and confidence to deal with an injury or illness in the workplace. This is not a regulated course but candidates do receive a certificate of attendance, showing compliance with HSE recommendations.

Aquatic First Aid - Level 1 (8 hrs)

 

 

Arguably the most complete one day course available covering the life threatening situations of someone who is unconscious, choking, not breathing, or bleeding heavily, and supplementing it with a range of serious injuries and illnesses. This course has been designed for people involved in kayaking, canoeing or any other form of paddlesport, so the drowning protocol for resuscitation is covered in detail and candidates get to practice on mannequins dressed in paddling kit. The course trainer, Andrew Barras has a background in whitewater, sea kayaking and marathon paddling, having attained British Canoeing 5-star awards in white water and sea kayaking, and is a UKCC Level 2 coach with Moderate Water Endorsements in white water and sea kayaking. With 25 years of working for the ambulance service, he brings a unique wealth of experience to this course which is certificated by British Canoeing and is not Ofqual regulated.

Activity First Aid (12 hrs)

 

 

Day 1 of this course is identical to the Emergency First Aid at Work course. During day 2 we’ll cover head and spinal injuries, broken bones, dislocations etc. We’ll also learn to manage major illnesses such as diabetes, stroke, anaphylaxis, asthma, angina and heart attack. You’ll spend time looking at how to manage an incident in an outdoor setting where the climate can be quite hostile. Scenario practice will be specific to your activity, making this the ideal course for a sports coach looking to fulfil their National Governing Body requirements. For those involved in paddlesport, this course meets the requirements of the British Canoeing First Aid policy, for those who are coaching or guiding on water in a remote setting. The course can also be supplemented by on-the-water scenario training which will be eligible for the British Canoeing CPD points scheme.

In this course we’ll work through a mix of on-the-water scenarios and dry-land scenarios. You’ll learn and practice how to work through the Incident Management process. This course challenges you implement all your skills whilst on the water, where you could be far from help, in a dynamic environment, and with continuing risks to other paddlers in your group. 

 

For safety reasons the maximum group size on this course is 6.

This qualification is designed for learners with a responsibility for the care of children and babies and provides knowledge and skills to deal with a range of paediatric first aid conditions and incidents. During this course you’ll learn and practice the skills needed to save a life in an emergency; specifically dealing with a child who is unconscious, who is choking, who is have a seizure, who is not breathing or who is bleeding badly. Andrew is also a qualified teacher and has 15 years of first aid training experience. His engaging and easy to understand content is a blend of instruction, demonstration, group exercises, practical scenarios, anecdotes, and videos. The prices quoted include the tuition, certification fees, first aid manual, notebook and pen. It does not include venue hire fees or food/refreshments.

Whether you work with chainsaws or children there is a course for you. Your choice will depend on your Risk Assessment of First Aid needs. The course you choose must meet what is needed to cover those risks. For the workplace, guidance can be found on the HSE website here. For sports clubs, guidance can be found from that sport’s National Governing Body.
